Thong Siek Food Industry Pte Ltd, which now trades as TSG (Thong Siek Global), is a Singapore manufacturer, distributor and retailer of surimi-based (fish paste) seafood products, best known for its DoDo brand. The business began in 1976 as a family backyard operation making fish balls in Bedok, was registered as Thong Siek Food Industry in 1978 and became a private limited company in 1990. It says it was the first manufacturer to use surimi as its main ingredient (1980); after a study trip to Japan in 1983 it moved to full-scale production with Japanese technology, and in 1993 it became the first fish ball maker to fully mechanise production. It set up a production facility in Johor, Malaysia in 2006, joined Neo Group in 2015 and in 2018 moved to a 150,000 sq ft factory at 22 Senoko Way. Its Enterprise Singapore profile says the factory processes more than 30,000 kg of fish meat a day into over 60 products sold in about 30 countries. TSG says it was the first Singapore food manufacturer to gain HACCP certification and halal certification for seafood products, and the first Singapore maker of surimi-based seafood to obtain the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety; it also holds bizSAFE certification and the LowCarbonSG logo, and in 2016 was the first Singapore fish ball maker to receive the AVA Gold award. The range includes fish balls (Teochew, Fuzhou, chilli and low-sodium), fish cakes, mini chikuwa, crab-flavoured sticks, prawn and cuttlefish balls, seafood pastes for steamboat, breaded fish fingers, fillets and nuggets, chicken nuggets, patties and cutlets, spring rolls and prawn rolls, sold under DoDo Everyday, DoDo Kiddos, DoDo Choice, DoDo Heritage and the UMI series.
